“Sunday Morning”: The Importance of Being in a Moment
Hi! Welcome to my first blog post as an artist. I’ve been seeking out a way to share more about my art, my processes, my inspirations, and simply connect more. And this seemed to be the thing that felt right to do.
So, let’s talk about my latest piece titled “Sunday Morning.”
Last weekend, I packed my bags and went to my family’s cabin in the woods. It’s less spooky than it sounds…during the day at least.
There have been a lot of sudden changes in my life recently. Big changes. And because of it, my mind feels like a ping pong ball ricocheting every which way. One minute, I think everything will be fine and the next I’m spiraling in a panic. To be completely blunt, it’s felt miserable and very lonely most of the time.
So, a trip to the cabin in the middle of the woods with my family seemed like something I needed.
We spent the first day simply spending time together…enjoying the nice weather, grilling out, talking, and watching a movie at the end of the night. It was nice, but my mind was still that little ping pong ball.
The next morning, however, was different.
I woke up early on Sunday. I made myself a cup of coffee. Then I grabbed my sudoku book and the novel I’ve been reading, and I headed for the deck with the perfect view of the lake peeking through the trees.
In my opinion, one of the best parts about being in the woods is the sounds.
Once I got to the deck, I was alone with the view and surrounded by the sounds of birds chirping nearby, wind rustling through the trees, and a set of wind chimes in the distance. It was the first moment of peace I’ve felt in a while looking out at the lake like that.
I’m not sure how to describe how good it felt to just fully be present in a moment like that. Even though it didn’t make my worries and sadness go away, it made everything racing around in my mind a bit quieter for the time being. I’d even say it made me a little hopeful that I can find peace and have happy moments again.
All of that from a Sunday morning looking out at the lake.
I think that it goes to show that allowing yourself to be present in a moment can make all the difference. Even if only for a moment…that moment is worth a lot.
Here are a few more pictures I took that morning :)
